Most Likely to Succeed:
- I really enjoyed the movie “Most Likely to Succeed.”
- One of the most interesting take a ways from the movie for me was the recognition of when in life are you in a test writing situation; why evaluate kids by giving them tests when in the real world when they can look anything up and/or ask their co-workers for help.
- I believe to be successful in this world, it’s not all about being smart but rather having life skills such as communication, time management, collaboration, and most importantly a personality
- Someone once told me that “you can’t teach personality but you can teach skill” meaning that although the individual might have a learning curve in the job itself, those skills can be learnt over time where a personality can’t be taught in a job.
- The individuals who are resourceful, resilient and have a growth mind set are the ones who will be successful.
- The current system fails to treat all students like people with motivations, goals, and aspirations.
- At High Tec High, the students were working with a purpose rather than trying to achieve good marks on information they aren’t going to retain.
- Schools must support learners in their community.
Twitter:
- I am finding Twitter very frustrating to use as I am finding it hard finding posts relating to teacher education and what other teachers are doing.
 Education as if people mattered:
- We don’t allow for deep personal inquiry because it’s hard to organize
- Jeff Hopkins doesn’t think that learning is serving the needs of our world and that “the system we are in was developed 150 years ago also in a very different context and for a very different purpose.”
